Nate

He is sixteen, with a mess of stawberry blonde hair that falls down, way down over his eyes, These eyes are the clearest, blue-est cornflower blue. He’s a hip kid, a young man even, wearning his jeans pulled way down to hang, barely, at his hips. Pulled down over some really “cool” brand of underwear that he hopes “the chicks” will dig.

But the thing he was worried about the most after the impact of the SUV into the little honda he was the passenger in, was his teeth. As he staggered out of the twisted wreckage and came towards me, after he fell into my arms and I laid him on the ground, after he asked what happened, and where was he, and who punched him, he asked me, “Where are my teeth, man?”

“What happened to my teeth?”

“My teeth are gone, man…”

I held him there on the ground, those blue eyes looking past me, then at me, then thru me, and I told this beautiful boy his teeth looked nice, they looked great, they were all there, and they were fine…

Then he stopped breathing.

Nate….Nate…NATE,NATE…WAKEUPNATE!!!! I shook him and begged him to stay, stay, stay with me, and breathe, breathe, breathe!!!

He stayed, dear young man, he stayed, with his pocket full of marijuana, swearing they weren’t smoking it, I said it was ok, cause in the scope of it all, this poor child had SO much more to worry about- but that was all for a day a long way away, after the hospital, the x-rays, the surgeries, the swelling, the bruising, the close mcalls, the stitches, the learning to sit, stand, walk, the rehabs and all of the rest that comes from one person

RUNNING ONE RED LIGHT.

My young friend Nate made it out of that accident alive, so did his young friend, the driver, and the two babies in the backseat who AMAZINGLY did not die. And the driver of the SUV who hit them, and her husband, who the medics cut out, did not die, and we, the onlookers who were almost hit, did not die, By some small matter of 5 feet.

But I sobbed all that night, into my pillow, in the dark, calling out to my God to help my dear Nate, my self, and all of us foolish humans…Please help us Jehovah, cause we do such stupid things and hurt so many people.

Thank God for giving us second chances, pleasse my blue-eyed beautiful friend, please take care . get well, and live thankfully with your beautiful teeth.

One day soon, Jehovah will take away all pain, all suffering, and all death. Just hold on tight. And dont run any red lights.
