The Garden in Winter

My beautiful yard, every inch of it memorized, till,  when I close my eyes it is illuminated to every corner with golden light. It is my haven, where each leaf whispers, “thank you!” when I sprinkle on the water. And I thank God in all His majesty for being the Grand Artist that He is!!

The tropical climate here is a challenge to a person who grew up in western Pennsylvania, not only in because it gets SO hot that I thought I was going to absolutely melt, but because every annual I planted withered and died within a week. I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong, I knew how to plant them properly, I knew to fertilize, and I followed whatever directions the seller had posted on it. What I did not know was that the soil had no nutrition, the sun was so hot that it faded the paint on my car in 6 months, and that the few minutes I spent watering each day were far from enough to sustain plant life. That is, until the rainy seasons came and drown everything.

So, through much struggle, and self education, and being observant of which plants seem to do well here in south Florida, I think perhaps my garden is one of the most beautiful around. I just wish my body would comply when I ask it to weed, to rake, water and dig. But, I must give glory to God, for he makes them grow.
